I’ve decided that I both love and hate finish work. I hate it because it is requires 100% precision and if something gets damaged, it can’t be fixed. It just has to be replaced. I love it because when it’s done, it’s done. Move on and forget about it. That part is pretty cool.
If you hadn’t guessed, we’ve been working on finish materials this week. Last weekend, my parents were out of town visiting Tony and his family. In their absence, the Jensen’s stepped up big time. Kirk came out and helped me install the F-flashing for the soffit installation while Emily and Judy painted trim boards for around the windows.

Emily’s Artistic Side (Or Maybe Not)

Judy Lending A Hand
I spent the week going in to Chebe at 6:30 a.m. so that I could go straight to the house at 4:00 and work until 7:00. I spent most evenings working on the metal for the overhangs. This includes the F-flashing that Kirk helped me install, soffit panels which had to be cut to size, soffit divider which runs at 45 degree angles on the corners of the roof, and facia which slipped under the drip edge (see my post about getting the roof ready for shingles).

Installing The Soffit

Finished Metal On Overhangs
On Tuesday, Hagedorn Construction came and poured the concrete for the garage floor, the sidewalk, the back patio, and the deck post holes. They came back Wednesday morning and poured the driveway. It really adds size to the project and makes it look way more finished than without the concrete.

Poured Driveway
Dad and I installed the painted trim boards later in the week. This got us to the point of being ready to start siding the house. We installed the wire lathe to get ready for stone siding. Tony will be coming up next weekend to help put it on.

Painted Trim Installed
On Saturday, Mom, Judy, and Barb Mendenhall came out to insulate the house. The electricians had finished putting all of the light and outlet boxes in. This gets us pretty close to being ready for the dry wallers to come in and hang sheetrock.
Sunday afternoon, Dad and I framed the back deck. Putting the actual decking on isn’t a priority right now, so it may be Spring before that gets done.

Deck Framed
I’m excited at the progress we’re making. If the snow stays away for a couple of weeks, we’ll be done with the outside of the house and can focus on interior finish work.
